GAIRSOPPA WHICH WAS SUNK BY THE GERMANS IN 1941 WHILE ON ITS WAY FROM BOMBAY, INDIA TO GREAT BRITAIN. PART OF HER SILVER LOAD WAS RECOVERED IN 2013 & 2014 BY A UNITED STATES RECOVERY COMPANY. COINS ARE APPROX. 22 MM DIAMETER AND 2.5 MM THICK AT RIM. THESE ARE MARKED BOTH “1/4 OZ.” AS WELL AS “50 PENCE”. 2013 WAS THE FIRST YEARS THESE WERE OFFERED FOR SALE.
