Antique Art Nouveau Handkerchief Box – Linen Cross Stitch, Cherry Blossoms & Lanterns
This exquisite 19th-century Art Nouveau handkerchief box is a stunning addition to any vintage collection. The box, measuring approximately 11 1/8″ x 7 1/8″ x 1/2″, features a beautiful paper cover adorned with intricate details. It includes the top, plain bottom, and original tissue paper that covers a raw linen cross-stitch piece depicting two Chinese lanterns with branches and cherry blossoms. This remarkable cross-stitch measures approximately 9 1/2″ x 12 1/2″, plus 3″ folded on each end, showcasing delicate hand stitching. The border is fashioned from blue linen, also hand stitched. Two cords, one of which has faded slightly due to light exposure over time, complete the box’s charming design. This rare and well-preserved piece is in excellent condition and a true testament to the artistry of the era.
