2014 S.S. Gairsoppa Recovered Silver 50 Pence Coin – 1/4 oz Shipwreck Treasure
This captivating 1/4 ounce silver coin is crafted from recovered silver salvaged from the British ship S.S. Gairsoppa, which was sunk by German forces in 1941 during its voyage from Bombay, India to Great Britain. A United States recovery company retrieved a portion of the ship’s silver cargo in 2013 and 2014. The coin measures approximately 22mm in diameter and 2.5mm thick at the rim. It bears the inscriptions “1/4 OZ.” and “50 PENCE”, and its edge is engraved with “GAIRSOPPA”. First offered for sale in 2013, this coin arrives in a high-quality protective holder.
